AbstractObjectives Quantify how observable characteristics contribute to influenza vaccination disparities among White, Black, and Hispanic nursing home (NH) residents. Design Retrospective cohort. Setting Participants Short- long-stay U.S. NH residents aged ≥65 years. Methods We linked Minimum Data Set (MDS) Medicare data LTCFocUS other facility data. included with 6-month continuous enrollment in an MDS assessment between October 1, 2013, March 31, 2014. Residents were classified as short-stay (<100 days NH) or (≥100 NH). fit multivariable logistic regression models assess the relationships 27 resident NH-level receipt of vaccination. Using nonlinear Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition, we decomposed disparity White versus Black Analyses repeated separately for short- Results Our study 630,373 1,029,593 Proportions vaccinated against 67.2% 55.1% 54.5% individuals 84.2%, 76.7%, 80.8%, respectively Across 4 comparisons, crude ranged from 3.4 12.7 percentage points. By equalizing prespecified characteristics, these could be reduced 37.7% 59.2%. Living a predominantly proxies quality important contributors across all analyses. Characteristics unmeasured our (eg, staff attitudes beliefs) may have also contributed significantly disparity. Conclusions Implications The racial/ethnic was most dramatic Intervening on factors associated would likely reduce disparities; however, future qualitative research is essential explore potential that understand degree which overall

Racial/ethnic disparities in nursing.
The racial and ethnic composition of the registered nurse (RN) workforce in California is not at parity with the composition of the population. We find that the underrepresentation of African Americans in nursing in California appears to be due to lower overall educational attainment among African Americans. Underrepresentation of Latinos is due to lower overall educational attainment and, to a...

In response, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued interim recommendations for prioritizing vaccination. متن کاملRacial and Ethnic Disparities in Time to Cure of Incontinence Present at Nursing Home Admission.
As many as half of older people that are admitted to nursing homes (NHs) are incontinent of urine and/or feces. Not much is known about the rate of cure of incontinence present at NH admission, but available reports suggest the rate is low. There have been racial and ethnic disparities in incontinence treatment, but the role of disparities in the cure of incontinence is understudied. Using the ...

Objectives: Racial/ethnic disparities in nursing homes (NHs) are associated with lower quality of care, and state Medicaid payment policies may influence NH quality. However, no studies analyzing disparities in NH quality of life (QoL) exist. Therefore, this study aims to estimate associations at the NH level between average number of QoL deficiencies and concentrations of racial/ethnic minorit...
متن کاملRacial and ethnic disparities in infant mortality.
Racial and ethnic disparities in infant mortality in the United States seem to defy all attempts at elimination. Despite national priorities to eliminate these disparities, black infants are 2.5 times more likely to die in infancy compared with non-Hispanic white infants. This disparity is largely related to the greater incidence among black infants of prematurity and low birth weight, congenit...
